The question does not say anything about brakes being applied.When the body overspeeds ie  when its velocity increases, the centrifugal force on it increases alongwith the demand for friction.Thus a stage is reached when the demand for friction exceeds the maximum possible friction available.This is when skiding starts and since the net unbalanced force is in the radial direction, skidding takes place in the radial direction.
