jus what edison sir has mentioned ...
see when the pint has a shrp area ... corona discharge ... or dielectric breakdown will take place owing to high potential in the lightening environment ...so that as charge is there it can flow down to earth ...
in the second one ... read the second one ... the EXTRA charge flows to the grnd ... so essentialy its potential is indeed being equalised to earth ..
