Among hydrocarbons the factors that determine boiling points seem to be chiefly molecular weight and shape this is to be expected of molecules that are held together chiefly by vanderwaals forces. te answer is of course that alchohols ,like water are associated liquids their abnormal boiling points are due to the greater energy needed to break the hydrogen bonds btn the molec. this is the reason why the compounds having the same no of carbons also differ in boiling points.
