About the Exam

Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) Examination

At Puducherry Admission to professional courses is centralised and done by the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC), Government of Puducherry. Admission to the "Government Quota of Seats" in Private and Unaided Professional colleges, including the minority Colleges, will be as per the law/ regulation /order of Government of India, or of the Government of Puducherry, on the subject. The details regarding the Colleges and the number of seats will be made available at the time of counselling.
Eligibility:
Candidates seeking admission to the B. Tech. degree course should have passed the HSC (Academic) examination conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent examination thereto, with a minimum of 45% marks (a mere pass for SC / ST candidates) in aggregate, in the prescribed subjects, namely - Mathematics, Physics and any one of the following optional subjects: Chemistry/Bio-Technology/ Computer Science/ Biology (Botany & Zoology).
Candidates belonging to UT of Puducherry, and who have passed HSC (Vocational Stream in the area of Engineering & Technology) examination, conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent examination thereto with a minimum of 45% marks (a mere pass for SC candidates) in aggregate, in the prescribed subjects, namely: Vocational subjects and a related subject (Mathematics / Physics / Chemistry), are also eligible for admission to the B.Tech. Degree course.

The maximum age limit for B. Tech is 21 years
For B.Tech. Degree Course

Admission is based on the marks secured by the candidates in the prescribed subjects, in the qualifying examination [i.e. for HSC Academic: Mathematics, Physics and any one of the optional subjects (Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Computer Science / Biology / Botany & Zoology & for HSC Vocational: Vocational Subject Theory, Vocational Subject Practical and a related Subject], and 'normalizing' them by the prescribed procedure. Equal weightage will be given to all the three prescribed subjects. In case a candidate has appeared in more than any one of the above prescribed optional subjects, the subject in which the candidate has obtained the highest marks will be taken into consideration for 'normalisation' and for calculating the actual total marks in the prescribed subjects. Wherever separate marks for practicals are awarded, the same will be considered along with the respective subjects, for arriving at the total actual marks and hence the 'normalized marks'.
For Other States/UTs Candidates Applying for Admission to B.Tech Degree course

Candidates applying against other States UTs' quota of seats, admission to B.Tech Degree course will be based only on the actual merit marks secured by them in "AIEEE", and a separate merit list prepared for them. For such Candidates, the 'normalization procedure' is not applicable. However, if a Candidate has secured 'cumulative negative marks' in "AIEEE", then such a candidate is 'not eligible' for admission to B.Tech Degree course, coming under the purview of CENTAC.

Issue of applications: In the Month of June
