ah good idea to start this discussion. I would suggest few ok,
I have cracket JEE twice. last year with a very big rank of 3600+. this time its ok.
what i would suggest you guys is first of all dream for iit. Establish a strong desire to join IIT's. second prepare for no exams els ( except aieee which stands as a good backup, its all after your confidence). Next is, you have to be clear woth concepts and establish few tactics(tricks) that works in mathematics, this will help you to secure good marks in maths. Try to visualise the concepts that is extremely useful for IIT physics. If once you can do it, you will clear physics and maths cutoffs. ok, then comes chemistry, do lot of work in 5 chapters of physical chemistry( Atomic., Equill. , ionic equill., thermo chem. and electro chem.) perfectly. in organic chem, reations and ascending descending nature of properties are most useful (to work on). inorganic is quite simple as 10 table.
thats how, write as many mock tests as possible but never care for its results. it is just a guide for you for what next step of preparation must be.donot beleive predictions any where. FIITJEE people siad that i cannot enter into iits. But i have made it. donot get depressed or exited with those reults. take a complete time for your preparation. donot go behind books, but go behind problems. i guess you understand. inferiority is to be avoided. be superior indeed !
