Actually they are basically the same. Ionisation potential is the older expression. It is the actual energy that we have to provide to ionise a species. The value is always negative as we have to provide energy for ionisation. Ionisation Enthalpy is the current IUPAC recommended term. U know what enthalpy is right? The value is positive as the energy of the system increases when we provide energy for ionisation.Cheers... | |||||||||||||
