book4: if he jad done like what u said and just killed harry right away then obviously he would b the suspect.and what explanation could he give to dumbledore about harry's death?but in the maze no one will ever know whether harry is in the maze or elsewgere , so he could easily kill him and say that he was killed in the course of the tournament.actually he thought harry would die in the 1st or 2nd task itself.
