I would like to state the bare facts here to remove any confusions you guys might be facing. 1. Majority of engineers do not join core technical jobs in their respective branches and opt for fields like IT , Investment Banking etc. IITs develop you not just into engineers but much more. 2. Barring a few exceptions companies do not discriminate people on basis of their departments . The major discriminating factor are your grades and how well u performed. 3. You probably would not opt for higher studies or core technical choice unless you have a strong inclination towards your branch. Moreover it will be difficult for you to get good grades unless you cultivate interest in your studies. Hence if you do have a strong inclination towards any field choose that. 4. If not you should be opting for the institute which attracts the best companies and which adds maximum to your brand name and personality. Which in your particular case is IITD.
Hope this helps.
