Organization of the periodic tableTo understand how the periodic table is organized, imagine that we write down a long horizontal list of the elements in order of their increasing atomic number. It would begin this way:H  He  Li  Be  B  C  N  O  F  Ne  Na  Mg  Al  Si  P  S  Cl  Ar  K  Ca...Now if we look at the various physical and chemical properties of these elements, we would find that their values tend to increase or decrease with Z in a manner that reveals a repeating pattern— that is, a periodicity. For the elements listed above, these breaks can be indicated b

Engineering Entrance , JEE Main

Hi Maybe couple of you must be knowing this. But someone asked me about this today. I myself discovered it in class 12th. Till then, I knew the entire periodic table but if you asked me suddenly that what is the 3rd element of group 16, I would have taken atleast 30 seconds or even more to give the answer. Coz periodic table without a pattern is very hard to remember. Then, I came to know of this code to remember the entire periodic table. After this, I could read out the entire s and p clock in less than 30 seconds in my mind. NOTE : You need to be familiar with the periodic table to make full use of thisNOTE: Please take the hint from the Sound the words as well a

The geometry around trimethyl around the N atom in (CH3)3N is pyramidal due to sp3 hybridisation and due to the lone pair-bond pair repulsion. The following memorizer was taught to us in Bansal Classes. I have made slight modifications so that it can be remembered 'smoothly'. Some phrases may be ridiculuous but that makes a memoriser a memoriser. Sorry to my south Indian and Bengali friends as knowledge of hindi is necessary...The list covers almost all the elements which are considered to be important in IIT-JEE chemistry. Engineering Entrance , JEE Main

D and F block elements:The elements that lie in between S-block and P-block are the d-block elements. These elements are called transition elements as they show transitional properties between s and p-block elements. These elements contain partially filled d-orbitals and hence they are called as d-block elements. The f-block of the periodic table of the elements consists of those elements whose atoms or ions have valence electrons in f-orbitals. Actual electronic configurations may be slightly different from what is predicted by the aufbau principle. The elements are also known as inner transition elements.         &

Medical Entrance , NEET

The study of physical and chemical behavior of metallic elements, their inter-metallic compounds and alloys is known as metallurgy. It is a domain of material science. In short metallurgy can be defined as the technology of metals. The procedures involved in extracting metals from ground and the procedure in refining, alloying and making things out of metal is also discussed in this domain of material science. An engineer or a person who is specialized in metallurgy is known as metallurgist. They have specialized knowledge in geology as extracting metals is related with study of soil. Historical developments in metallurgy were found in a wide variety of past civiliz

Medical Entrance , NEET

1. The scientific community has two accepted definitions for transition metals: first, it is an element with incomplete d sub-shell atoms, which may or may not result to cations with incomplete d sub-shells. The second defines about it as the elements found in the dblock of the periodic table.2. Charles Bury first used the word "transition" to describe the elements that undergo a transition series during an electron's change of inner layers. This transition occurs from a stable group of 8 to a group of 18, or from 18 to 32. These elements that underwent transition are now referred to as transition metals or d-block elements.3. The atoms of the d-block

IntroductionHydrogen is the first element in the periodic table. It is the chief constituent of stars.99% of stars is composed of Hydrogen and 1% Helium (formed by nuclear fusion of hydrogen) about which you will learn later. Water which is also known as "life" is also a compound of hydrogen. What is Hydrogen? It is an element with 1 electron and one proton. Normally it does not contain neutron. But "Heavy Hydrogen", which is radioactive in nature contains neutron. The atomic no. of hydrogen is 1 and mass no. is also 1. It occurs as a diatomic gas at S.T.P.Chemical PropertiesIts electronic configuration is 1S1 i.e. it is one electron short of the n

Medical Entrance , NEET

The first two and last six columns in the periodic table, called the S-block and P-block, reflect the structure of the corresponding s and p shells of the elements in these blocks. Columns in the periodic table form families of elements having similar chemical properties. S-block elements are made up of metals; the P-block constitutes a variety of elements, including noble gases, halogens and metalloids.S and P ShellsThe electrons that orbit atoms form distinct structures called shells. Each shell contains orbitals, which the electrons occupy according to principles of quantum mechanics. The S-shells have a spherical shape, and multiple S-shells form concentric, oni

Humans are the highest level of organism living on this planet. We are even termed as the stewards of this place. Although plants and animals are also considered as living organisms, humans are given the chance and the will to utilize the natural resources that can be found on earth. These natural resources include plants, wood and minerals. NEET , Chemistry

Some science classes will require students to memorize the periodic table of elements. However, even if this is not a requirement, having the table memorized may still come in handy, especially in more advanced courses. At first glance, the periodic table is intimidating, full of unfamiliar symbols and numbers. Fortunately, however, there are several tricks and aids to help you memorize the table. But regardless of which method you use, you'll still have to put in a lot of time and effort.1. Memorize the mnemonic alphabet. This is a tool used by memory experts to help them relate words and letters to numbers. Each number, zero through nine, is assigned to a spec
